Jameka’s Brother Wins G2

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 13

A full brother to Caulfield Cup winner Jameka, three year-old Myboycharlie (IRE) colt Grandslam has shown glimpses of serious talent in the past, but put it altogether at Moonee Valley on Saturday to score a resounding victory in the Group II MVRC Alister Clark Stakes (2040m).

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, who put the polish on his $4.8 million earning full sister, Grandslam was third in the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas last spring before finishing unplaced in the Cox Plate.

His first two runs back this campaign were lacklustre, but ridden forward by Jamie Kah to take up the lead, Grandslam responded in exciting fashion to race right away and win by six lengths over classy performer Cherry Tortoni.

“He gave me an awful ride to the gates as he was so hard to pull up, but in the run he was great and was pulling away from them at the finish,” said Jamie Kah.

Grandslam has the overall record of two wins and two placings from 10 starts with prizemoney just shy of $350,000.

Grandslam was a $600,000 Magic Millions yearling.

Bred and sold by Gilgai Farm, he was a $600,000 Magic Millions purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock and is the most expensive yearling sold in the Southern Hemisphere by shuttle sire Myboycharlie, who returned to France for the last time in 2017 and now stands at the Jockey Club of Turkey at a fee of 10,000 euros.

The 21st stakes-winner for Myboycharlie, Grandslam is the second stakes--winner from Mine Game, a half-sister to Group I winner Jymcarew, who is also the dam of Group II placed Nikitas.

Mine Game produced a colt last spring by Dundeel and is back in foal to him again.
