There are certain sets of racing colours that everyone knows and on Saturday a young trainer gets his chance to join an exclusive club when a horse carries Australia's most famous jockey silks.
The late and great Bart Cummings' colours of green and gold diagonal stripes with a white cap have won Melbourne Cups and many other Group I races aboard the likes of Think Big, Leica Lover, Leica Show, Dayana, Cap D'Antibes, Vivarchi, Century Miss, Beau Zam, Let's Elope and Roman Emperor.
In 2013, the Australian Racing Board and Racing NSW announced that those colours had been preserved for the exclusive use of the Hall Of Fame Legend's family for at least the next 50 years.
At Newcastle on Saturday, Edward Cummings will become the newest member of the Cummings family to have a runner carry the silks.
His co-trainer and father Anthony tasted Group I success with the silks in 1991 when Final Card claimed the Gadsden Stakes while brother James had numerous winners carry the green and gold diagonal stripes with a white cap during his tenure at Leilani Lodge.
"The example that Bart set and the influence he's had on my career would certainly make it a welcome feeling if that horse is able to win on Saturday," Edward Cummings said.
"Both Dad and James have won races with those colours and it's a club that I'm keen to join."
With James Cummings moving to become Godolphin's new head-trainer, last start winner Roman Son made the switch to Anthony and Edward's Randwick stable and has his first start for his new trainers in Saturday's Tigerlight Benchmark 64 Handicap (1850m).
Roman Son was bred by Bart Cummings and is a son of the master trainer's last Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor, out of his Group III SAAB Quality runner-up Miss Meliss, a Zabeel mare Cummings also trained that finished 10th in the 2002 Melbourne Cup.
"The horse has come to us in very good order and hopefully the horse can carry on from where he left off with James," Edward said. "He was very good first-up and it looks a suitable race on Saturday.
"He's bred to enjoy trips at around 10 furlongs and based on his work at home and the way he returned, probably in better company as well in the future.
"Saturday looks a nice stepping stone."
Leading NSW jockey this season Jeff Penza, who's ridden 118 winners across the state during 2016/17, will be aboard Roman Son.
