Waller and Winx – 'We owe it to the world'

Clinton Payne - Friday September 15

Champion trainer Chris Waller has for the first time publicly declared his intention to showcase Australia’s superstar Winx on the international stage.

Waller told the Alan Jones Breakfast Show that Winx, who's set to line up in Saturday's Group I George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick, would have "one, possibly two more in Sydney then down to Melbourne for grand final" in the Cox Plate.

It appears most likely Winx will progress from the George Main Stakes to the $500,000 Group III Craven Plate (2000m) at Randwick on October 14, the day of the inaugural $10 million The Everest but on the same day in Melbourne is the $1 million Group I Caulfield Stakes (2000m), a race the mare won last year.

Waller also discussed the early plans for Winx in 2018 where he revealed an international campaign is firmly in his, and the mare's sights.

"I would say she'll come back in the autumn and have a few runs in Sydney," Waller said

"Then we probably owe it to the world to take her over there and have a shot in England."

The Royal Ascot carnival would be the mostly likely target for the Winx juggernaut where the Group I Prince Of Wales's Stakes (1m2f) or the Group I Queen Anne Stakes (1m) would be the suitable races.

Meanwhile, the Nine Network's 60 Minutes program will showcase Australia's best racehorse on Sunday's night's edition of the current affairs program.
