Lasqueti Spirit Produces $850,000 Pierro Colt

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 7

Talented racemare Lasqueti Spirit is fondly remembered as the filly that shocked a big Flemington Oaks Day crowd when she led all the way to win the Group I VRC Oaks as a 100-1 shot and she made her mark as a broodmare at Inglis Easter on Wednesday when her first foal, a colt by Pierro sold for $850,000.

Raced by well-known owner breeders Frank and Christine Cook and partners, Lasqueti Spirit went on to be multiple Group I placed aside from her Oaks triumph and was retired to stud as part of their Mystery Downs broodmare band and sent to Fairview Park to be cared for Linda Duckworth and her team.

Pierro was chosen as her first partner and this stunning colt provided the best result the Cook’s have ever had in the sale ring when purchased by Coolmore’s Tom Magnier.

“The mating looked an amazing match on paper and has produced an amazing horse,” an emotional Frank Cook told Inglis’s Jemma Cutting.

Consigned by Bhima Thoroughbreds, the colt from Doulmera (USA) was bought by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock/Astute Bloodstock.
