Mark Smith - Saturday May 15

Spirit of Boom was in hot form on Saturday with four winners highlighted by a stakes double at Doomben courtesy of exciting 2YO Prince of Boom and his top class mare Outback Barbie.

In her last preparation before retiring to the broodmare paddocks, popular mare Outback Barbie overcame a three-wide trip to capture Saturday’s  Listed Magic Millions Bright Shadow Quality (1200m) at Doomben.

Completing good day for her sire Spirit Of Boom, Outback Barbie finished determinedly to defeat the 4yo Shooting To Win mare Intrepidacious by a short-head with the 4yo Sizzling mare Blazing Miss a further three-quarter of a length back in third.

Outback Barbie advanced her record to five wins, four seconds and six thirds from 32 starts with earnings of $1,574,842, with her fourth stakes success.

Winning trainer Tony Gollan said the daughter of Spirit Of Boom gives her all.

“We have been all over the place with her. Her runs in Sydney were good, but things were just not going right for us.” Gollan said.

“When the barrier draw came out on Wednesday I must admit I was kicking cans.

“She hit her customary flat spot and knuckled down late.

“I am so thrilled for her. This is her last preparation and she has been so good to us.”

The daughter of Spirit Of Boom was a $210,000 Magic Millions purchase for Alan and Jennifer Acton from the Eureka Stud draft and was the most expensive yearling from the first crop of her sire.

Outback Barbie a $210,000 Magic Millions yearling

She is the first foal of the stakes-winning General Nediym mare Pure Purrfection, who was a $160,000 purchase by Colin McAlpine out of the Widden Stud draft at the 2010 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale

A half-sister to stakes-winner Global Warming, Pure Purrfection has proven to be a goldmine.

At the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Boomer Bloodstock shelled out $550,000 for her Pierro filly named Purroni who has won three of her 12 starts.

Yarraman Park Stud will be offering Purroni at the upcoming National Broodmare Sale.

At the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Eureka Stud sold Pure Purrfection’s Written Tycoon filly to Gary Harding for $340,000.

At the 2020 Magic Millions Pure Purrfection’s filly by Hinchinbrook failed to make her $350,000 reserve.

Pure Purrfection has a weanling sister to Outback Barbie and was bred back to Spirit Of Boom.
