Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Monday June 21

Trials were held at Randwick on Monday morning with six heats for juveniles including three that were won by the progeny of boom first season sires Capitalist and Extreme Choice, who are in a neck and neck battle to be Champion Australian 2YO Sire.

Russian Standard was a little slow to jump, but finished off his trial well to win as he pleased for the Mark Newnham stable.

He’s had four trials in total and one race, winning all of his trials and finishing last of seven at his only run at Gosford in February after starting favoruite.

Am inclined to think we never saw the real horse that day as he travelled wide, had a tough run and showed a poor recovery rate after the run, so keep an eye out for him at the provincials as if he brings his trial form to race day he’ll be winning.

Williams Bay is another Capitalist that has been to races finishing second and third in her first two starts back in January and February at Scone and Gosford.

This was her second trial back and she’s ready to go back to the races and add to Capitalist’s growing tally of winners.

Bella Palazzo is not very big and has obviously needed time to strengthen up, but showed with this trial she is headed in the right direction.

James Harron Bloodstock is probably best known for their purchase of high profile colts, but they’ve had some luck purchasing fillies at the lower end of the market and Bella Palazzo fits that profile and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Testamezzo and three other winners.

Other heat winners were: King of Sparta (I Am Invincible), The Maxinator (Dream Ahead (USA) and Beep Test (All Too Hard).
