Churchill Moves to Seven Winners

Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 4

Coolmore shuttler Churchill (IRE) is quietly adding more Northern Hemisphere first crop winners to his tally with promising colt Unconquerable the seventh to salute after scoring at Naas in Ireland overnight.

The Donnacha O’Brien trained colt won by a length over seven furlongs after finishing second at his two previous outings.

“He deserved it as he's bumped into a few nice ones. Judging by that he's still learning and probably wants a bit further,” said Donnacha O'Brien.

“I always thought he was a good horse and still do but probably up in trip. He's going to be better next year as well.”

Unconquerable was a 210,000 guinea purchase for MV Magnier from the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and is the first winner for Rien Ne Vas Plus, a placed half-sister by Oasis Dream to Group I Epsom Derby winner North Light and two other stakes-winners.

Unconquerable picked up a 20,000 pound Tattersalls bonus for his win and holds an entry for the Group I National Stakes at The Curragh in September. He is the seventh first crop winner for Churchill, who also has five more placed runners.

A brilliant miler that won four Group I races at two and three, Churchill returns to Coolmore Australia this spring at a fee of $22,000 and will have his first runners here next season.

Churchill (IRE) has sired seven first crop winners in Europe.

His yearlings have sold strongly here this year with 35 in total selling at average in excess of $108,000 with his top seller a colt from Heaven’s Touch that made $250,000 at Magic Millions when snapped up by Anthony Freedman Racing/Blue Sky Bloodstock P/L.
