Hanseatic – Timing is Everything

Breednet - Thursday July 8

When Rosemont Stud announced the addition of Hanseatic to their stallion roster in March this year, it wasn’t long before two significant events unfolded ensuring the son of Street Boss (USA) is one of the most popular first season sires in Victoria this spring.

Bred and raced by Godolphin, Hanseatic was one of their best juveniles last season and his sire Street Boss has also provided Godolphin with their best two year old this season in Anamoe.

Hanseatic wins the Blue Diamond Preview

Just weeks after it was announced Hanseatic would be retiring to Rosemont Stud, Anamoe came out to finish second in the Golden Slipper before winning the Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes in a procession.

The brilliant success of Anamoe proved the catalyst for Darley to relocate his sire Street Boss from Victoria to their Hunter Valley base at an increased fee of $55,000 leaving Hanseatic to continue his legacy alone down south.

The response from breeders has been overwhelming with his book all but full by the end of April.

WHAT HE DID

The only horse since champion juvenile Rancher to win the Merson Cooper Stakes, Blue Diamond Preview and Blue Diamond Prelude.

Rancher went on to win the Gr.1 Blue Diamond while Hanseatic missed by a head when finishing hard for second.

WHAT THEY SAID

Anthony Mithen - “The momentum around this horse just grows and grows.”

“Hanseatic is going to provide Victorian breeders, and Australian breeders with the opportunity for that precocious, fast two year-old that there seems an insatiable appetite for.”

Trainer Anthony Freedman – “the best 2yo we have had since Alinghi.”

Deane Lester – RSN Form Analyst – “Put simply, this is an outstanding prospect as his speed ratings were as good as I’ve measured on a 2yo colt leading into a Blue Diamond.”

Rider Luke Currie – “He had the most amazing turn of speed.”

Sebastian Hutch – William Inglis Bloodstock Manager - “This is a really really cool horse. Really sexy profile, by the right stallion, beautiful pedigree and a good looker.”
