Some Familiar Colours on Display at The Curragh

Mark Smith - Monday July 19

Some very familiar silks were on display at The Curragh overnight.

The Joseph O'Brien-trained I Siyou Baby opened her winning account at her fourth attempt with a four-length romp in a mile maiden.

The 3yo daughter of Siyouni (FR) carries the Champion Thoroughbred silks.

Purchased as a weanling by Brian Grassick Bloodstock from the Aston Mullins Stud draft for 70,000gns at Tattersalls in 2018, I Siyou Baby was bought back when reoffered by Newton Stud at the 2019 Goff Orby Yearling Sale.

"She won well and is improving with each run. Hopefully, she can keep progressing, O'Brien told Irish Racing.com

"She ran well in Naas the last day and was just beaten. She's improved again from that and liked the track."

I Siyou Baby is a three-quarter sister to Group III winner Spectre, second in the Group 1 Prix du Mulan and third in Group 1 Prix Jean Prat.

The opening event on the programme, a 7-furlong maiden for two-year-old fillies, was won by the royally-bred Dubawi filly Concert Hall, trained by Aidan O'Brien.

However, John and Deb Camilleri's Fairway Thoroughbreds will be buoyed by the career debut of the homebred Dark Angel filly Voice Of Angels (GB).

The sturdy grey filly begrudgingly surrounded the lead in the final 50 metres to be beaten a half-length.

0,000 gns buyback, when offered by Hazelwood Bloodstock at the 2020 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Voice Of Angels (GB), has an abundance of blueblood in her veins.

Her dam Ring The Bell (Galileo), a daughter of the top-class racemare and outstanding producer Beauty Is Truth (Pivotal), made just one start in her career.

Voice Of Angels as a yearling (Tattersalls)

Disappointing as that was, Ring The Bell can boast being a sister to the Group 1 Rawson Stakes winner The United States; dual Group 1 winner Hydrangea; the dual Group 1 winner Hermosa who won the 1000 Guineas Classics at Newmarket and the Curragh; and a half-sister to triple Group III winner and multiple Group 1 placed Fire Lily (Dansili).
