Arrowfield Stud Bred Jumper on the Up

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 26

The latest round of Thoroughbred Sport Horse Association classes at Forbes last weekend produced some interesting winners including an Arrowfield Stud bred horse with a bright future as a showjumper.

Pompous and Kate Edwards enjoy the win at Forbes.

Kate Edwards and her rising seven year-old gelding Pompous  won the TSHA 1.10m Group 1 class last Sunday.

It was only last Spring at the DESA Spring Macquarie Jumping Festival that Kate and Pompous won the 80cm Slipper class and now they are back winning the 1.10m classes making great progress in the past 12 months.

Pompous carries the Arrowfield brand and was initially trained by Paul Messara and then Brett Cavanough at Scone after selling for $10,000 at the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale.

Pompous combines the blood of two Arrowfield sires being by Charge Forward from Fine Figure, an unraced daughter of champion sire Redoute’s Choice from Group III winning South American import Estatuilla (Arg).

His racing career produced one minor win from 21 starts, but his jumping career is proving far more successful.

Kate owned Pompous in the latter stages of his racing when he was trained by her husband, Stephen at Dubbo and she is now showing him what life’s all about post racing.
