Group I Goals for Caravaggio Filly

Tara Madgwick - Sunday August 22

Brilliant grey dual Group I winning sprinter Caravaggio (USA) shuttled for just one season to Coolmore Australia and that crop of foals are now two year-olds, the son of Scat Daddy making a quick start in the Northern Hemisphere with three stakes winners so far headed by exciting filly Agartha.

Already a Group III winner, the Joseph O’Brien trained filly stepped it up a notch on Saturday at The Curragh to win the Group II Debutante Stakes (7f) by two lengths under Declan McDonogh.

“She's unreal, she's tough and Declan said she seems to go on any ground,” trainer Joseph O’Brien’s assistant Brendan Powell told Irishracing.com.

“Last time out (McDonogh} made plenty of use of her and he's done the same today. You could see them trying to come at her one by one. She seems to stay well, she gallops well and puts her head down. Most of all she's an absolute trier … It's only onwards and upwards with her. She's tough and hardy.”

A homebred for the O’Brien family, Agartha holds entries for the Group I Moyglare Stud Stakes and Group I Fillies Mile at Newmarket.

She is the first winner for stakes-winning Dylan Thomas mare Arya Tara, who comes from the family of multiple Group I winning champion colts Azamour and Australian based The Autumn Sun.

She is one of 15 first crop winners for Caravaggio, who is also the sire of stakes-winners Dizzy Bizu and Her World as well as and two more Black Type performers.

Caravaggio was a one time shuttler to Coolmore Australia and has two year-old runners this season.

Caravaggio has had 55 yearlings sell in Australasia at an average $80,727 this year and below are his top five sales. He has 32 entries for the 2022 Golden Slipper.
