The top bets from Paul Joice for Wednesday

Paul Joice - Wednesday September 20

A good track awaits at Warwick Farm on Wednesday and at this time of year these midweek meetings can throw up some genuine carnival contenders.

RIDICULE (Warwick Farm Race 2 No 8)
Brad Widdup is a new name in the Sydney training ranks but those in the know have known about his ability for a long time. It’s no surprise that he’s racked-up 11 winners from his first 42 starters at a strike-rate of better than 25 percent. He produces So You Think filly Ridicule at the races for the first time on Wednesday on the back of three trials. Her two trials this time in have been top notch, including a soft all-the-way Wyong 845m trial win last week. A soft gate, a lack of genuine pressure and a filly loaded with natural ability is enough to sway me to have something on.
BET: WIN
ODDS: $4.20  @  Bet365

IMPROVISE (Warwick Farm Race 3 No 8)
Chris Waller and Hugh Bowman combine with this daughter of Hinchinbrook in this 1400m maiden for the three-year-olds. On debut Improvise was pocketed into the straight after box-eating before closing off hard when a close-up third here over 1200m. Soft gate, Bowman goes on and the extra 200m should all assist in promoting Improvise to first past the post this time.
BET: WIN
ODDS: $3.40 @ Sportsbet (Power Play $3.75)

DISSOLUTE (Warwick Farm Race 6 No 1)
When they trial as strongly as this four-year-old did – they generally run well. Dissolute cruised around 794m here in his only lead-up trial, winning as he liked under minimal pressure. Yet to win first-up previously, but that is what has kept him in a price-range which we can actually make something out of. Going off his trial alone – he would be a certainty. Maps well off a soft gate, has Hugh Bowman in the saddle and the James Cummings stable is churning out winners. Stick with the strength here.
BET: WIN
ODDS: $2.60 @ William Hill (Price Pump $2.90)
