Three year-old stakes races so far this spring have yet to reveal a colt that has delivered a knockout performance to put fear into his rivals, but three contenders who may do just that stepped out at the trials last week.
At Rosehill on Friday we saw Remarque and Home Affairs.
Luckless when resuming from a spell for a fast closing third to Paulele in the Listed ATC The Rosebud, boom Snitzel colt Remarque looked top class when cruising clear to win his 900m trial by nearly three lengths over Group II winner Subpoenaed.
He clocked 54.37 seconds for the trial with his last 600m in 34.15.
As a full brother to Golden Slipper winner Estijaab, Remarque has always had a weight of expectation on him and now it’s time to deliver.
Group II Silver Slipper winner Home Affairs is yet to race this spring, but has won all three of his trials to date and this one on Friday was a ripper.
He’s grown and matured into a big powerful horse and he travelled smoothly in the lead and surged to the line to win with ears pricked by nearly three lengths.
His time of 54.32 seconds with the final 600m in 34.17 was slightly quicker than Remarque.
I Am Invincible is yet to sire a colt better than Brazen Beau, who was in his very first crop of foals, but in Home Affairs he might have the horse to change that.
Street Boss (USA) colt Anamoe was last seen winning the Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes and had his first trial back last week when charging home under a hold for third to Gytrash in a 724m heat at Randwick.
He might not be as forward as Remarque and Home Affairs when he resumes from a spell, but pedigree would suggest Anamoe would be the best chance of the three of them to run a mile as his campaign progresses, so whatever he does first up is probably a bonus.
