One to Watch – Cranbourne

Star Turn has an interesting runner in the Group I ATC Golden Rose on Saturday with his Brisbane based filly Startantes set to test her mettle against the big guns and he also had a debut winner at Cranbourne on Thursday for Team Hawkes.

Three year-old gelding Saskatoon was a hot favourite to win on debut and kept his supporters happy leading all the way to win by more than a length over 1200m.


Saskatoon was an $80,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Ampulla Lodge draft and runs for Alan Bell, who also raced his sire.

Bred by Kambula Stud, he is the first winner from Group II placed Berry Delicious, a half-sister by Blevic to the dam of Group III winner Lordhelpmerun from stakes-winner Magic Heaven.

Saskatoon is the tenth Australian winner this season for Star Turn, who is the leading second crop sire by winners.

The flashy chestnut son of Star Witness stands at Vinery Stud this spring at a fee of $16,500.
