G3 Winner for Nechita

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 24

Group I winning Fastnet Rock mare Nechita topped the 2013 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale when selling for $1.55 million to Coolmore and her record at stud has improved considerably this year  with the arrival of two stakes-winners in Australian trained import Harpo Marx (IRE) and progressive Galileo mare Forbearance, who won the Group III Princess Royal Stakes (1m4f) at Newmarket overnight.

Trained by Jessica Harrington for Newtown Anner Stud, Forbearance won a Listed race two starts back and has kept making progress running out a dominant two and a half length winner of this assignment beating the favourite Sayyida from Godolphin.

Forbearance has the overall record of four wins and three placings from nine starts.

“Forbearance really enjoys that fast ground and a strong-run race suits her. She is a good stayer and is an improved filly. Hopefully she can stay in training next year. She was off the bridle all the way today and that suited her as she picked up well,” said winning rider Shane Foley.

She is one of two winners for Nechita, whose other winner is Sydney based stayer Harpo Marx (IRE), who has done a great job for Bjorn Baker winning over $400,000 in prizemoney with a highlight victory in the Group III ATC Premier’s Cup.

Forbearance is one of five stakes-winners by Galileo bred from a daughter of Fastnet Rock, the nick running at 26% stakes-winners to runners, that figure mirroring the success of the nick the other way around which has produced 23 stakes-winners.

Nechita has a three year-old filly called On Tiptoes that has started twice for Donnacha O’Brien, but is yet to place and a two year-old filly called Awesome Wonder with all of her offspring to date sired by Galileo.

Awesome Wonder was bought by Brian Grassick Bloodstock for 140,000 pounds at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale last year and runs in the Champion Thoroughbreds colours for Jason Abrahams, who bred Nechita and sold her as a yearling.

The filly is yet to place from three starts for Joseph O’Brien, but as a sibling to a pair of Group III winners will be a valuable broodmare for the future..

Nechita is now back in Australia for Coolmore after being covered last year to Southern Hemisphere time by Frankel and produced a colt by the champion sire earlier this month.
