Wyndholm Has Right Ring to Spring

Since being established in 1985 by prominent Victorian vet, Dr Kim McKellar and his wife Liz, Wyndholm Park Stud has been a constant source of quality performers.

So, when the opportunity arose last year to stand the flashy black entire, Ringerdingding, the McKellars didn’t hesitate.

After all, Ringerdingding definitely has the attributes to make it as a stallion … certainly in terms of physique and performance.

An outstanding athlete by the major influence Sebring (70 stakes winners & 69% winners to runners), Ringerdingding was a $170,000 purchase from the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale ring and would be raced by some of Australia’s most successful owners in Ricky Surace of B2B Thoroughbreds (Star Witness), Viv Oldfield (Shamus Award), Sean Duke (Jakkalberry) and Wilf Mula (Flying Artie).

Fortunately, they didn’t have to wait long for Ringerdingding to show his wares with a Rosehill victory on debut as a 2YO. For the remainder of his career all bar two of his starts would be at black type level.

Yet, while competing with distinction at two, it was during his Classic season that Ringerdingding truly shone.

In the spring and autumn, Ringerdingding finished a close up third in the Group 3 Red Anchor, won the Listed Hilton during the Melbourne Cup carnival, won the Group 2 Sandown Guineas, resumed with a third in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes and finished fourth in the Group 1 Australian Guineas behind Mystic Journey.

Unfortunately, Ringerdingding was balloted from the Group 1 Doncaster over 1600m at Randwick which would be won by Brutal – carrying 49.5kgs – in 1:37.65.

Ringerdingding’s owners were left wondering what might have been when their colt won the Group 3 Carbine Club – over the same distance – earlier that day at Randwick: in 1:37.84 while lugging 59kgs.

Ultimately, Ringerdingding would win five races and run top four finishes in seven black type events for $550,000 in stakes.

But now Ringerdingding is on to the next stage of his career and he looks ready to hit that out of the park too.

“Ringerdingding has some outstanding first foals with real quality about them … just like their sire,” Dr McKellar points out.

“Sebring was a hugely versatile stallion and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Ringerdingding gets quite a few early comers that train on at three and four. Another big plus is that Ringerdingding is genetically suited to Danehill-free mares.

“We sadly lost Rebel Raider (Nonconformist, Pretty Punk, Waging War etc.) last year but believe Ringerdingding is an ideal replacement and, coupled with a steady flow of winners from his barnmates in (Group 1 winning Shamardal stallion) Crackerjack King and Sports Edition (Northern Meteor’s 2YO stakes winner), it’s shaping up to be an interesting few years ahead for Wyndholm Park Stud.”
