Cox Plate Delivers Serious Sire Power

Tara Madgwick - Monday October 18

Australian yearling buyers might be finding it increasingly difficult to purchase stock with some sort of genetic staying aptitude in their pedigree, but there are Australasian sires that can deliver the goods and we need look no further than the Cox Plate to find them.

Breednet’s popular distance sire tables highlight the stallions whose progeny excel over a bit of ground and the 1600m to 2000m table below features three Cox Plate winners at the top of the list in So You Think (High Chaparral(IRE), Savabeel (Zabeel) and Shamus Award (Snitzel).

The same trio also feature prominently in the sires from 2000m and beyond with Shamus Award surging to the top courtesy of his remarkable son Incentivise, who has taken all before him this spring.

One of the leading contenders for the 2021 Cox Plate is Godolphin’s outstanding three year-old Street Boss (USA) colt Anamoe, who won a vintage renewal of the Caulfield Guineas and seeks to become the first three year-old to win the Cox Plate since Shamus Award did it as a maiden in 2013.

Anamoe is running in the Cox Plate this Saturday.

A grand-son of four time Cox Plate winner Winx’s sire Street Cry, from quality Redoute’s Choice mare Anamato, who won the Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks (2000m), Anamoe gives every indication he is the right type of 3YO for Cox Plate greatness both in terms of performance so far and pedigree.

Anamoe’s second and third dams are by Whiskey Road (USA) and Sovereign Edition (IRE) who both sired memorable Cox Plate winners in Strawberry Road and Surround, so if Anamoe gets the job done on Saturday he will be living up to the blood flowing in his veins.

If we are looking for star sires of the future that can deliver versatile offspring, we need look no further than Anamoe.
