Find out all you need to know about owning a racehorse at Racing Connections.

To enter, become an Owner In Training at www.racingconnections.com.au and tell us what you would name a racehorse who was the son or daughter of Winx.

One winner will be announced each month from December 2021 through to April 2022. The vouchers can be used to purchase a stake in a horse, or micro ownership shares, and anything left over will go towards ongoing expenses, such as training fees.

Members of the Owner In Training community will also gain access to a host of exclusive events as well as competitions, giveaways and more.

The competition is part of a new-look Racing Connections website set up to provide people interested in racehorse ownership with all the information they need to understand what’s involved and work out what type of ownership they might be best suited to. Racing Connections is a sub-brand of Aushorse, the marketing arm for the breeding industry.

“The competition is a great way for five people to get a chance to experience racehorse ownership and we hope our winners will be at Flemington in the future when they buy into a top class horse,” said Aushorse chief executive Tom Reilly.

“With prizemoney soaring 82% in the past decade and the number of million dollar races in Australia now at 72, there has never been a better time to get involved in ownership.”

Racing Connections was launched off the back of the most extensive ownership survey ever taken in Australia. Nearly 1800 people responded to the questionnaire, with almost half of them keen racing fans who had never owned before.

Despite being regular race-goers with a positive view on ownership and what it involved, fans felt that there were huge entry barriers; only one in 10 of those surveyed knew where to start when buying a horse.

Furthermore, they said that there were few places to go to get unbiased information on ownership and that unless they knew someone in the industry whom they trusted, they wouldn’t get involved.

“We developed Racing Connections so there was a place where people could go and have their ownership questions answered. Our research showed that the better-informed people are when becoming an owner, the more they enjoy the experience,” said Reilly.

“Even if people don’t win a voucher, they can join our Owner In Training community which will be hosting a number of events and giveaways in the next 12 months, so it’s a great way for people to engage with racing.”

The competition is open to all racing fans regardless of whether they are a current owner, or have owned in the past.

The full terms and conditions for the competition can be viewed on the Racing Connections website.
