Reward for Effort Withdrawn from Service

Media Release - Wednesday November 10

Leading Victorian stallion, Reward For Effort, will be withdrawn from service for the remainder of the 2021 breeding season, due to a foot abscess.

The successful son of Exceed And Excel was only last month relocated to Larneuk Stud, following the closure of Chatswood Stud.

Reward for Effort is sitting out the remainder of the season due to a foot abcess.

“It’s a bloody shame he has to sit out the rest of the season but there’s no way we were going to risk him,” explains Larneuk Stud’s Neville Murdoch.

“We were absolutely delighted to get him on board to stand alongside Endless Drama, Wandjina, Cluster and Wolf Cry and interest in the horse has been very encouraging, despite him coming to us so late in the season."

In many ways Reward For Effort is one of the most underrated stallions in Victoria: he’s got a strike rate of well over 60% winners to runners and while he gets a lot of speed horses like Gold Symphony, Ability, Brugal Reward, Blondie, No Effort, Take Pride, Dalradian and Desert Lashes – all black type winners – he can also get horses like this season’s stakes winner, No Effort, that can get over a trip.

“They love him in other states too where he’s had multiple city winners like Rock The Ring, Philonize, Outpost and Rodeo in recent months.

“So, you can see why we don’t want to take any chances with him … he should be right as rain for next season and we’ll certainly be looking after those that have booked in mares for 2021.”
