Capitalist Colt Impresses on Debut

Mark Smith - Wednesday November 17

Striking Capitalist colt Capital Tower made a winning debut over 1100m at Doomben on Wednesday to credit Tony Gollan with his first two-year-old winner of the season.

The champion Brisbane trainer made a bird of it by supplying the runner-up Our Heart Throb.

All the money was for Capital Tower, who impressed with a barrier trial win at Eagle Farm on October 26.

With James Orman in the saddle, Capital Tower travelled sweetly on the outside of the pacesetting Mishani Rebound. When Orman let the rein out a notch, Capital Tower quickly put the race to bed.

His stablemate Our Heart Throb (Spirit Of Boom) kept on trying but could get no closer than a length and three-quarters with Mishani Rebound (Domesday), a length back in third.

“That was the order I had them. I have done a lot of work with these two together at home,” Gollan said.

Capital Tower a $600,000 Magic Millions Yearling

“The little horse that ran second is still a preparation away. He will be a nice horse for the group later on.

“The colt, John Foote purchased him, as he does for 90% of our horses, for Mr Law in Hong Kong. We were very lucky to get this colt, he is a really nice horse. He was an expensive yearling and is going to do a terrific job.

“He is a big boy, he knows he is a colt. He was beautiful in the parade today.

“He is the sought of horse that the more I have done with him, the better he has gone. I’m positive there is a lot more to come.

“He will thrive with a bit of racing. He is a lovely mature animal. Who knows where we will get to this summer.”

John Foote Bloodstock purchased Capital Tower for $600,000 from the Vinery Stud draft at the 2021 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Capitalist has 42 lots catalogued for the Gold Coast

Bred by Brian and Noela Backshall’s John Stuart Investments, Capital Tower is the first foal of the Stratum mare Eiffel Tower a half-sister to VRC Incognitus Stakes winner Sangria (I Am Invincible) out of the stakes-placed Encosta de Lago mare Quench The Thirst.

John Stuart Investments purchased Eiffel Tower for $200,000 from the Newgate Consignment at the 2019 National Broodmare Sale when carrying Capital Tower.

Her dam Quench the Thirst is one of four daughters of Redoute’s Choice’s sister Monsoon Wedding to make $1million more at the Teleey Asset Dispersal. She was knocked down to Newgate Farm for $1.5million.

Eiffel Tower has not had much luck of late. She missed to Russian Revolution in 2019 and 2020.

Capital Tower is the first two-year-old winner of the season for Capitalist. The Newgate Farm stallion has 42 lots catalogued for the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January.
