Contributer Making His Mark in HK

Media Release - Tuesday November 23

Mapperley Stud stallion Contributer is starting to make his mark in Hong Kong.

Contributer

Earlier this month he sired his first Hong Kong winner when Snowalot won the HKJC Canmake Tokyo Handicap (1200m).

Snowalot was having his first raceday start for expat Kiwi trainer Paul O’Sullivan after being sold to Hong Kong interests after a trio of impressive trial performances in New Zealand.

Snowalot was a $40,000 purchase by Wexford Stables out of the Jamieson Park draft at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Book 1 Yearling Sale.

Contributer didn’t have to wait long for his second winner in the competitive racing jurisdiction, with Party Warrior breaking through for a well-deserved win over 1200m in the HKJC Kyoto Handicap and Happy Valley last week.

Another NZB graduate, Party Warrior was knocked down to Waikato Bloodstock for $140,000 at the 2019 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready Run Sale.

Initially in the care of Tony Pike, he won a trial by 4-1/2 lengths at Avondale as a spring three-year-old and quickly joined the K W Lui stable in Hong Kong after a sale was agreed.

“Contributer has been on everybody’s radar here in Australasia but it is very important for these young sires to start performing up in Hong Kong, which we all know is a key market for us,” Mapperley Stud principal Simms Davison said.

“We knew a couple of really sharp ones were sold up to Hong Kong off very impressive trials, so it was only a matter of time before we saw them perform up there.

“They were both sharp performances over 1200m, they will only get better going deeper in their preparations as well.

“Horses need a sharp turn of foot up there, and the Contributer’s have that.”
