Juvenile Trial Watch - Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Thursday December 30

Five heats for two year-olds at the Warwick Farm trials on Thursday morning produced some interesting winners including two very smart types by I Am Invincible that have already raced and shown good ability in the Group III ATC Breeder’s Plate and Gimcrack Stakes back in the spring.

The fastest of the juvenile heats was won by the Matt Dunn trained colt Emperor, who was always travelling well to win his 818m by a length and a half in 48.18 seconds.

On debut in the spring, the son of I Am Invincible was a good third to Sejardan in the Breeders Plate with another I Am Invincible colt finishing second that day in Zambezi River and he too was in this trial, performing well albeit ridden quietly to finish third.

Emperor as a yearling.

A $460,000 Inglis Easter purchase for his trainer from the Segenhoe Stud draft, Emperor is bred to be good as a half-brother to Group II placed God of Thunder from Group II winning Fastnet Rock mare Jolie Bay, a full sister to dual Group I winner Merchant Navy.

Fifth on debut in the Gimcrack, the Annabel Neasham trained filly Mumbai Jewel looks to have come back in great order covering ground in her trial and hitting the line well held together to win her heat by a head in 48.84 seconds.

A $575,000 Magic Millions purchase for her trainer from the Coolmore draft, Mumbai Jewel is a half-sister to stakes-placed Splendoronthegrass and two other winners from Mumbai Rock, a winning Fastnet Rock daughter of US Group I winner Mani Bhavan.

Other heat winners were: Plymstock (Ribchester (IRE), Smart Vengeance (Smart Missile) and Sweet Ride (Deep Field).
