G3 Canonbury and Widden Stakes Sale Mail

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 28

The Golden Slipper picture will become a little clearer after racing at Rosehill today featuring the Group III ATC Widden Stakes  (1100m) for the fillies and Canonbury Stakes (1100m) where three million dollar colts will do battle.

The form of the Breeders Plate will be tested here with the appearance of I Am Invincible colt Zambezi River, whose only start resulted in a second to Sejardan.

Not a Single Doubt’s Flashing Steel was third on debut to his stablemate Sweet Ride, who is scratched from this race, while Great Barrier Reef has looked good at the trials and you can find out more about him in this Best on Breeding story.

The fillies race looks a lot stronger on paper with two very smart winners engaged in Ebhaar and Ojai, plus a raft of up and comers including Queen of the Ball.

Great second on debut to Ojai, Queen of the Ball has no favours with another wide gate, but on talent is right there with the top two.

A homebred for Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock, she is from Miss Debutante, a stakes-winning juvenile by Fastnet Rock from top class US Group II winning daughter of More Than Ready (USA) in More Than Real. Pedigree definitely says 2YO stakes-winner!
