Inglis Breeding Stock Sale Series Entries Open

Media Release - Friday February 11

Entries for Inglis’ 2022 Breeding Stock Sales Series – which saw significant growth across all renewals last year – are now open.

The series will again begin at Riverside with the Australian Weanling Sale, Chairman’s Sale and Australian Broodmare Sale in early May before moving to Melbourne in June for the Great Southern Weanling and Great Southern Broodmare Sales.

A hugely successful 2021 Series resulted in:

*The Chairman’s Sale averaging a Southern Hemisphere record $532,736 and 91% clearance rate, further asserting itself the optimum sale to market and sell elite breeding stock

*The Chairman’s average price ($674,118) for fillies and mares off the track and median ($342,500) were 137% higher and 185% higher respectively than the nearest competitor’s equivalent

*The progressive Inglis Weanling Sales Series grossed $20.1m including 55 weanlings to realise $100,000 or more to a market-leading buying bench of 60 individual buyers per 100 weanlings sold (291 buyers in total)

*The Broodmares Sales Series – Australian Broodmare Sale and Great Southern Broodmare Sale – both enjoyed records, with the Sydney Sale average jumping a stunning 53% while Great Southern saw a new highest-priced mare.

Inglis Bloodstock chief executive Sebastian Hutch noted the opportunity that the sales represent for stock owners to capitalise on a bullish Inglis bloodstock market.

“There is a real confidence in the market and the expectation is that this momentum will continue throughout the sales series, so we are very much looking forward to it and helping vendors to achieve more outstanding results,’’ Hutch said.

“The big advantage in our series is our sales are first and last, so vendors can sell first in Sydney and access the fresh money in the breeding stock market or they can choose to sell last in Melbourne and capitalise on the urgency of demand in June, at world-class facilities that are convenient to the major breeding hubs.

“The Chairman’s Sale is obviously the jewel in the crown. In only a few short years it has skyrocketed to the highest-averaging sale of its type in the Southern Hemisphere and is now an event as much as a horse sale. Three of the four highest-priced pregnant mares sold at public auction from 2019-2021 have been sold at the Chairman’s Sale while the average price for pregnant mares at last year’s Chairman’s was more than double that of our nearest competitor.

“Interest in the 2022 Chairman’s Sale, from as far back as last year’s renewal, has been fantastic and at this stage there are mares in foal to the likes of I Am Invincible, Frankel, Fastnet Rock, Zoustar, Written Tycoon, Farnan, Street Boss, Kingman, Camelot, Capitalist, Wootton Bassett and many others earmarked for the sale, as well as a number of appealing race fillies and mares, so it’s a sale that we are particularly excited about.’’

Places in the 2022 Chairman’s Sale are limited, so interested parties are encouraged to submit any entry to Inglis via inglis.com.au or contact a member of the Inglis Bloodstock Team to discuss your options.
