Nicks that Click – Karaka 2022 –Probabeel

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 15

You could make a strong case to say reigning New Zealand Horse the Year Probabeel is the finest Savabeel to ever look through a bridle and the four time Group I winner showed her class last Saturday when resuming from a spell to win at Caulfield.

Carrying 60kg in the 1200m Group III MRC Bellmaine Stakes, she won the race for the second year running taking her overall record to 13 wins and eight seconds from 29 starts with earnings topping $4.3million. Sadly the win will be her last as her retirement was announced on Wednesday due to a suspensory issue. Read about it here.

A Karaka Million winner at two (1200m) and again three (1600m), Probabeel is the ultimate flagbearer for Karaka and has also won four Group I races in Australia ranging in distance from 1400 up to 2000m.

Probabeel was plucked from Karaka Book 1 for $380,000 by David Ellis and there are four yearlings to be offered this year that are bred the exact same way being by Savabeel from mares by Pins.

The nick is a good one, not only producing Probabeel, but also 15 other stakes-winners highlighted by Group I winners Savvy Coup, Brambles and Savy Yong Blonk with the overall stakes-winner to runner strike rate coming in at 13.3%.

Below are the yearlings bred this way in Karaka Book 1:

Lot 90 Colt Savabeel x Another Minute – Milan Park

First foal of an unraced grand-daughter of Group I winner Sixty Seconds.

Lot 491 Colt Savabeel x Pinata – Waikato Stud

From an unraced sister to Group II winner Mackintosh.

Lot 531 Colt Savabeel x Residential – Waikato Stud

First foal of Group III winner and multiple stakes-winner Residential.

Lot 580 Colt Savabeel x Silk Pins – Cambridge Stud

Sibling to three winners including promising 3YO Savasilk, who won last week at Ruakaka for Jamie Richards. From Group I placed Silk Pins, who was also second in a Karaka Million and comes from the family of Australian Group winners Gypsy Diamond and Finance Tycoon.
