Shinn calls on familiar lawyer for Everest appeal

Shinn has hired the legal services of Paul O’Sullivan, who helped the Melbourne Cup-winning jockey overturn a one-month suspension this time last year.

On that occasion, Shinn successfully contested a charge for "failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures” aboard the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Thud when finishing fourth at a Rosehill meeting on June 18, 2016.

At the offices of Racing NSW on Thursday, Shinn is appealing the less serious charge of careless riding in a bid to participate in the inaugural $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14.

The careless riding incident arose from last Saturday’s Group I Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill where stewards ruled Shinn had allowed his mount Pariah to shift in onto Chauffeur during the early stages of the race before handing down a 10-meeting suspension, due to commence on Monday.

Former jockey and trainer Kevin Moses will also be representing Shinn as a character reference.

In the meantime, Shinn has a busy weekend ahead with Group I rides at Moonee Valley on Friday, Randwick on Saturday, and Caulfield on Sunday including the Epsom favourite Happy Clapper.
