Four From Four for Jump The Broom

Mark Smith - Saturday March 26

Gilgai Farm’s 4-year-old Sebring mare Jump The Broom kept her unbeaten record intact with a fast-finishing win over 1200m at Mornington on Saturday.

With Jye McNeil in the saddle for Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes, Jump The Broom overpowered the Written Tycoon gelding Typhoon Harmony by a long-neck with a further length back to third-placed Smart Missile gelding Evening Glory.

With previous wins at Geelong, Moonee Valley, and Canterbury, Jump The Broom increases her earnings to $145,750.

“It wasn’t Jye’s fault, but she was in an awkward spot coming to the corner,” Wayne Hawkes said.

“At Mornington, you need to be in the right spot, which she certainly wasn’t, and he needed a little bit of luck to get out.

“Not many horses will win from that sort of spot. Her turn of foot is amazing, and she is certainly going somewhere.

“We picked this race about a month ago, and her record’s intact.”

“I don’t know if she would get north of 1200m, but does she have to?

“One night when she ran at Canterbury, she wasn’t actually loving it even though she won on a wet track. It might all be coming too quick for her.

“Rick (Jamieson) is very patient; he doesn’t want you to rush them. She’s not going to stud this year, so we’ll get her for another spring, another autumn and go with her.

“Sydney might be coming too quick. The end result was today was a $130,000 race and to put it into perspective, Mount Popa won in Sydney before, the Mornington Cup winner of last year, and his race was worth $160,000, and it was a Group race. This was a restricted race for $130,000, so we’re winning just as much in prize money for winning a restricted race down here, so we’re happy to keep her down here.”

Jump The Broom $405,000 well spent at the Magic Millions

A three-quarter brother to champion Hong Kong Sprinter Lucky Bubbles (Sebring), Jump The Broom was a $405,000 purchase for Dermot Farrington Bloodstock from the Glastonbury Farms draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She is the second winner for the Statue Of Liberty (USA) mare Bubbleberry.

Jump The Brooms 2yo half-sister sister Berry Bubbly broke her maiden at Moonee Valley last month.

Bubbleberry has a weanling colt by Fastnet Rock and was covered by Snitzel last spring.
