Wootton Bassett Starts 2022 Flat Season with a Stakes-Winner

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 26

The flat season started in earnest overnight at Doncaster with Coolmore shuttler Wootton Bassett (GB) featuring when his classy four year-old Chindit took out the Listed SKB Doncaster  Mile (1m)

A Group winner at two and three, the Richard Hannon trained stallion looks set to deliver more of the same this year and opened his account for the year with a two and a quarter length win as favourite.

“Chindit has done that with class more than anything. He's just fresh. But he's a class act, to pull as hard as he did and to get to the front and idle and still put the race to bed, said winning rider Rossa Ryan.

“I like to think he wants fast ground and it's very gluey out there, he really did hate it. When he got to the front he held a bit back for himself, which shows he's minding himself. If he comes forward again hopefully a big one can fall in for him and we see the Chindit we saw as a two-year-old.”

With five wins from 11 starts, Chindit was a 65,000 guinea purchases from the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and is the first winner for Always a Dream, a winning Oasis Dream mare from the family of Group I Epsom Derby winner Motivator.

He is one of 27 stakes-winners for Wootton Bassett, who was popular in his first season for Coolmore in Australia last spring covering 188 mares at a fee of $71,500.
