Sammiballerina Earns a Rich Prize for Glenthorne Park's Sebring Sun

Mark Smith - Monday April 11

Amidst all the stakes action around Australia on Saturday, the 2yo filly Sammiballerina earned a valuable prize for Glenthorne Park's first season, sire Sebring Sun when leading home a field of 16 fillies in the $125,000 DLV Finance Capricornia Plate (1200m) at Rockhampton.

Given an inspired ride by Chris McIver, the Jamie McConachy-trained filly overpowered the favourite Zipping Irish (Heroic Valour) by three-quarters of a length, with Street Glory (Hallowed Crown) a further one and a quarter length back in third.

It was the second start for Sammiballerina, who finished third on debut over 1050m at Rockhampton on March 22.

Sammiballerina races as a homebred for David Rutley's Glenthorne Park Thoroughbreds after failing to make her $20,000 reserve at the 2021 Magic Millions Capricornia Yearling Sale.

She is the third winner from four to race from the winning Lawyer mare Her Lyin' Eyes, whose dam Stumbling (Hurricane Sky) is a half-sister to Group II South Australian Oaks winner Dream The Dream (Encosta De Lago) out of the Group II VRC Wakeful Stakes winner Dream Of The Dance (Islero).

Sebring Sun

Not covered in 2020, Her Lyin' Eyes revisited Sebring Sun last spring.

Despite limited representation, Sebring Sun is the 16th leading first season sire with two winners from five starters.

The son of Sebring was a smart juvenile himself, winning over 1200m at Canterbury. He captured the Listed ATC Rosebud at three before finishing third behind Exosphere and Speak Fondly in the Group 1 ATC Golden Rose.

A striking chestnut, Sebring Sun stands at a value fee of $3,300 at Glenthorne Park Thoroughbreds
