Exo Lady Strikes in the Dalrello

Mark Smith - Saturday April 30

Beaten just once in five starts, the Desleigh Forster-trained Exosphere filly Exo Lady kept up her remarkable strike race in Saturday's Listed Treasury Brisbane Dalrello Stakes (1000m) at Eagle Farm.

Ridden by Jim Byrne, Exo Lady led at every call to defy the hard-charging Better Than Ready colt Steady Ready by a short neck with the Ribchester (IRE) filly Plymstock a length and a quarter back in third.

The winner of the Listed BRC Calaway Gal Stakes over the same track and distance in December, Exo Lad was not nominated for the Magic Millions 2yo Classic. After a 4-week break, she met defeat for the first time in the Aquis Gold Pearl at the Gold Coast on January 8.

Byrne said she did not handle the soft 7 that day, and things did not pan out as he thought it would on Saturday.

"That didn't go to plan at all. I'm sitting there hoping Steady Ready would go, and he didn't go," Byrne said.

"She's so calm normally, but she was quite excitable today. Even in her trial, if you have a look at her in the Listed race she won (Calaway Gal), she was very tardy away and didn't really jump into speed real quick. But as soon as she got fresh again, she had those fresh legs on her.

"I've always liked her. This was a nice field and there are bigger things for her to come. I'm just glad for the owners and glad for Des (Desleigh Forster)."

Forster also said it was plan B to lead.

"All the talk was about how much speed was in the race, and Jimmy said, 'what do we do,'? Forster said.

"I said, 'look, she'll probably jump and go'.

"Jimmy said he will ride her as she lands. If they go quick, I'll box seat, if they don't and they let her lead, I'll lead.

"The really good thing about it is was when that horse came up to her today, she kicked and found more. She is just a little bombproof filly. She switches off and just does what she needs to do."

Exo Lady a $50,000 Magic Millions March yearling

Part owner Rita Giltrow shelled out $50,000 for Exo Lady from the Glenlogan Park draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.

She is the best of two winners from three to race for the Falvelon mare Sheza Falvelon, a winning granddaughter of Listed SAJC Dequetteville Stakes winner She's a Pipe Dream.

Sheza Falvelon has a yearling filly by Rothesay and a weanling colt by The Mission.

She revisited Exosphere at Oaklands Stud last spring, where he stands for a fee of $4950.
