Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 14

Sea the Stars does get a lot of high class stayers, but he also has an exceptional miler in undefeated 4YO stallion Baaeed, the Shadwell homebred staying perfect in in his seasonal return to win the Group I Lockinge Stakes (1m) at Newbury overnight, while there were promising new 3YO SW’s for Frankel and Camelot.

The William Haggas trained Baaeed was having his first run of the year after closing out his 3YO season with a pair of Group I wins at Longchamp and Ascot. He picked up right where he left off with a smooth three and a quarter length win and the Group I Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot is next.

Sea the Stars has had a strong start to the year siring 10 stakes-winners since January 1 and had a stakes double overnight with 3YO gelding Ottoman Fleet winning the Listed Fairway Stakes (1m2f) for Godolphin at his second start.

Ottoman Fleet was a 425,000 guinea purchase for Godolphin from Tattersalls Ocrober Yearling Sale Book One and has already been gelded. He is the 90th stakes-winner for Galileo’s half-brother Sea the Stars.

The Listed Newbury Fillies Trial Stakes (1m2f) gave Frankel a 94th stakes-winner with the John and Thady Gosden trained filly Nashwa winning easily at her third start.

Entered for the Epsom Oaks, Nashwa is the best of two winners from her stakes-winning dam Princess Loulou, who is by champion sire Pivotal.

The Frankel x Pivotal cross has produced seven stakes-winners from 25 runners, so 28% SW to runner and four of those SW’s are Group I winners including Cracksman and Hungry Heart.

Camelot had a new SW in Australia on Saturday in Point Nepean and a new one in Ireland with the Ger Lyons trained 3YO filly Cairde Go Deo scoring an eight length win in the Listed Yeats Stakes (1m5f) at Navan.

Cairde Go Deo was flattered by the winning margin with the race favourite from Coolmore failing to finish, but she is the 45th SW for Camelot and can certainly stay all day.
