Blue Gum Farm Cease Standing Stallions

Media Release - Wednesday May 18

Philip & Patti Campbell of Blue Gum Farm have made the decision to cease standing stallions at their Euroa property this season. After a long and highly successful period of standing stallions, the Campbells have decided to concentrate on their broodmare management, raising of young stock and selling of weanlings and yearlings.

The Campbells first stood stallions back in 1984 when Europe’s Champion Older Miler, Noalcoholic, arrived at the farm. Noalcoholic was Australia’s Champion First Season Sire in 1987-88 and was the start of a line of very successful stallions for the Campbells. The likes of Rancho Ruler, Umatilla, Rubiton, Encosta De Lago, Statue Of Liberty and Elvstroem followed which resulted in no less than 32 individual Group One winners being conceived in the farm’s breeding shed.

“It is a very enviable record and one that we are extremely proud of,” commented Philip Campbell recently.

“Brilliant performers the likes of Alinghi, Fields Of Omagh, Hay List, Mnemosyne, Princess Coup, Racing To Win, Rubitano, Sacred Kingdom, Umrum and so many more had their origins here. It is nice to know that we had a real impact in this part of the thoroughbred breeding industry and we thank each and every breeder who supported us with mares during that time.”

Blue Gum Farm will continue to focus on producing quality drafts for future Melbourne Premier Yearling Sales. Over the last eight years they have been leading vendors there four times, second leading vendor three times and third leading vendor on the other occasion. It has not only been sale toppers but also a very consistent stream of quality race track performers that have originated from these drafts.
