New Stakes Winner for Spirit Of Boom

Mark Smith - Saturday June 4

The 4yo Spirit Of Boom mare Boomnova had banked nearly half a million dollars without making a start in a stakes race. The Chris Munce-trained grey made her stakes debut count in Saturday's Madame Sass Lightning Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm.

Given a positive ride by Samantha Collett, Boomnova made it three on the bounce when defeating Garibaldi (I Am Invincible) by a length, with        Usmanov (Choisir) a further one and a quarter length back in third.

Boomova advances her record to six wins, three seconds, and three thirds from 15 starts, with earnings of $520,250.

"It was fantastic. This is my first black-type winner here, so it is nice to tick that off. Full credit to Chris and his team," Collett said.

"This mare has been ticking over really well since her win last start. She has been towing me through the bridle in her work, and I'm a very small part of it, but she has paraded well here.

"I got a really nice run, and she was able to click off that hot speed and put them away.

"We had a little chat, Chris and I, when her and Centrefire were on similar paths. Trying to split them up to do the best thing for both mares, and this mare is electric over that five furlongs."

Munce said the daughter of Spirit of Boom had overcome several setbacks.

"From day one, when we ran her in the (Aquis) Jewel at her first start in a race, she ran third to Rothfire and Kisukano. I've always really loved this filly," Munce said.

"She’s always had a touch of toughness about her. She’s had a lot of injuries - been injury-plagued throughout her career - but she’s been a revelation here over the 1000 metres, which is really surprising.

“She’s just a good touch sprinting filly.”

“She's a stakes winner now so she is a valuable mare.

“Do we got to the Healy (Stakes) or go for a break, I’m not sure. We’ll just let the dust settle today, and I’ll have a good look at her on Monday.”

Boomnova a $110,000 Magic Millions March yearling

A $110,000 purchase for Munce Racing from the Eureka Stud draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale, Boomnova is the best of three winners from as many to race out of 4-time winner Silva Nova.

Silva Nova is a daughter of Canadian Silver (CAN) out of the stakes-placed Novajinsky, who ran third to Peggy Ann in the 1994 Lightning.

Silva Nova has not had a live foal since Boomnova, who becomes the 17th stakes-winner for Spirit Of Boom.
