Unraced Spring Trial Watch Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday September 20

There were barrier trials at Rosehill on Tuesday morning and a trio of unraced three year-olds caught our attention as likely candidates to follow when they step out on debut.

Godolphin don’t have a many I Am Invincible stock in their stable, but they do have Golden Rose favourite In Secret and another appealing unraced three year-old filly in Rhettara, who won her 900m heat by a neck.

It was the second trial this prep for Rhettara, who is a real blue-blood for Godolphin being a half-sister to stakes-winner Mamounia, from winning Lonhro mare Marrakesh, a half-sister to Group I winning duo Alizee and Astern.

Also by I Am Invincible is good looking gelding Golden Age, who showed ability when winning a trial back in June and looks to have made further progress during his short break away. Trained by Team Hawkes for Alan Bell, Golden Age showed good pace to take up the lead and after kicking away was eased down on the line.

A $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Sledmere Stud draft, Golden Age is a big heavy horse that always looked like he’d want gelding even as a yearling.

Golden Age as a yearling.

Bred by China Horse Club, Golden Age is the second foal from Group I winner First Seal, whose first foal Naval Seal (by Snitzel) topped the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when selling for $1.8million.

First Seal has a yearling colt by Zoustar that will no doubt be a big ticket item if he is offered at the yearling sales next year.

So You Think colt Pungo was featured on Breednet when he won his first trial and the Chris Waller trained colt looked good again winning the following heat by the best part of a length.

A $180,000 NZB Ready to Run purchase from the KB Bloodstock draft, Pungo is the first foal of Uzayli, a winning half-sister by Lonhro to stakes-winner Turbo Street and to the dam of Group II winner Scott Base.

His third dam Terrestial produced Australian Group I winners Outback Prince and Hotel Grand, so there is a bit of depth to his pedigree.
