Big Weekend for Aquis Young Gun Sires

Tara Madgwick - Sunday October 23

Aquis have three first season sires with their progeny running this season and all of them had winners over the weekend with Performer and Santos siring their very first winners while Brave Smash (Jpn) clearly has an above average juvenile in Perth with Brave Halo going two for two at Ascot.

Santos broke the ice in New Zealand on Saturday when promising filly Ulanova scored a half length debut win at Te Rapa over 1000m.

The Stephen Marsh trained filly was a short priced favourite and showed plenty of talent to lead all the way and kick on to win well.

A $150,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for astute bloodstock agent Michael Wallace from the Kilgravin Lodge draft, Ulanova was the most expensive yearling from the first crop of Santos.

Ulanova was the highest priced first crop yearling by Santos.

Ulanova is bred for speed being a three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Steal My Kisses and half-sister to stakes-placed Butter Blonde and Butch Kissidy. She is the sixth winner from six foals to race from Group III placed The Fairy’s Kiss, a half-sister to Group II winner Dame Giselle, who is by Santos’ sire I Am Invincible.

The Fairy’s Kiss was on-sold by Aquis at the 2020 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale when carrying Ulanova and was snapped up by Paul Willetts Bloodstock for $100,000 and sent to New Zealand.
