Sad News from Strawberry Hill Stud

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 17

Strawberry Hill Stud is home to some amazing mares, but sadly one of them is no longer with Stud Manager Bridie Sparkes announcing the passing of a great favourite in Tuesday Joy.

A four time Group I winner, Tuesday Joy had not had a foal since 2018 and was 19 years of age.

Bridie Sparkes posted on Facebook - I’d like to pay homage to our wonderful mare Tuesday Joy who passed away peacefully today at home after a pick of green grass and with the sun on her back and lots of pats. Not only was she an absolute sweetheart and farm favourite, she was a tremendous race mare amassing over $3.2 million in prize money with multiple Group 1 wins including the Coolmore, Ranvet, BMW and Chipping Norton as well as winning Group 2 races the Stocks Stakes and the Wakeful. Tuesday Joy also placed in many other stakes races in her career such as 2nd in the Victorian Oaks, the Apollo, the Gloaming, Sweet Embrace and the Surround and 3rd the AJC Oaks, AJC Derby and the Queen Elizabeth. An exceptional record. Rest easy now big girl.

A half-sister to Group I Australian Oaks winner Sunday Joy, the dam of champion mare More Joyous, Tuesday Joy produced six winners headed by Group II placed Girl Tuesday and is also the grand-dam of Group III winner The Elanora.

She has several daughters at stud.
