Pencarrow Presents Another Stellar Draft at Karaka 2023

As buyers right across Australasia and beyond have come to expect each and every year, Pencarrow Stud is set to offer another high-quality selection of yearlings at Karaka 2023 in late January.

Pencarrow’s class of 2023 contains the progeny of super-sires Snitzel, Savabeel, Exceed And Excel, Pierro, Written Tycoon and Darci Brahma (NZ), along with exciting young guns such as Almanzor and Vadamos. There are also progeny of well-credentialled first-season sires Super Seth and Alabama Express.

However, as always, the main drawcard of Pencarrow’s draft lies on the dam's side of the pedigree pages. Some of the highlights from our draft include:

·        Lot 58, a half-brother to the Group Three winner and Group Two-placed Lilikoi (NZ) (Charm Spirit).

·        Lot 75, out of a winning Sea The Stars mare Breeze (NZ) who descends from Epsom Oaks (2400m) winner Imagine (Sadler’s Wells).

·        Lot 112, a Super Seth colt out of stakes-winning mare Cote d’Or (NZ) (Makfi).

·        Lot 145, from the same family as Lot 112 and by Written Tycoon out of Group Two-winning mare Dolmabache (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice).

·        Lot 221, a Snitzel colt out of Group One-winning speedster Guiseppina (NZ) (Johar).

·        Lot 253, a filly from a family loaded with black-type. The dam of this Super Seth filly is Irion (NZ) (Danroad), who herself placed at Group Two and Group Three level.

·        Lot 308, out of an unraced Snitzel mare whose half-sisters Rasa Lila (NZ) (Darci Brahma) and Posavina (NZ) (Tiger Hill) were both Group winners.

·        Lot 433, by Champion 2YO & 3YO colt Too Darn Hot and out of the well-performed Posavina (NZ) (Tiger Hill). 

·        Lot 481, an Almanzor filly out of the stakes-placed Santangelo (NZ) (Lonhro).

·        Lot 495, a full-brother to Butter Chicken (NZ) (Savabeel) and half-brother Birdsong (NZ) (Snitzel) and Stella Splendida (NZ) (Zoustar). This Savabeel colt is out of Scintillula (Galileo).

·        Lot 520, a Super Seth filly out of stakes-winning sprinter Silver Eclipse (NZ) (Darci Brahma).

·        Lot 526, a filly by Super Seth out of Group Three and Listed winner Sleeping Beauty (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle).

·        Lot 567, a U S Navy Flag filly who is the first foal out of the high-class and well-related Supera (NZ) (Savabeel). 

Lot 638, a Super Seth colt out of the quality performer Wildflower (NZ) (Keeper). 

Pencarrow’s 23-strong draft will all be offered during the Book 1 session of Karaka 2023, which runs from 29 to 31 January.

A homebred for Godolphin, Fastnet Rock colt Corniche had not won a race since beating Golden Slipper winner Shinzo in the Group II ATC Skyline Stake last season, but he was well fancied in the Group III Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) run at Sunshine Coast on Saturday and duly got the cash under a cool ride from James McDonald.
$1.6million for G2 winner Autumn Ballet
With three recent Group I winning three year-old fillies, The Autumn Sun is a sire on the up and his Group II winning daughter Autumn Ballet proved a hot commodity at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale selling for $1.6million to the bid of Tom Magnier.
Stakes Double for Go Bloodstock
The yellow and white silks of Go Bloodstock were carried by two stakes-winners at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday with Thalassophile striking early in the day to win the Listed Silk Stocking and then later in the day three year-old filly Amazonian Lass got back in the winning groove when taking out the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m)
En Francais Leaves it Late in The Cummings Stakes
Jake Stephens was rarely far from the headlines with his Mackinnon Stakes winner Alcopop and is back in the spotlight with a close relation to the Group 1  winner in En Francais, who earned a maiden stakes win in Saturday’s Group III Hahn The Cummings Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville.
