Australia’s Most Expensive Thoroughbreds

Racing Post ran a story last week highlighting the performance of the world's most expensive thoroughbreds so we thought we should take a look at Australia's most expensive, how have they fared?.

Most Expensive Yearlings- Australia and New Zealand

Redoute's Choice colt from Helsinge$5million – Redoute's Choice colt from Helsinge.

The half-brother to Black Caviar and All Too Hard was a show stopper at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when purchased by BC3 Thoroughbreds. Sadly, the colt did not live long enough to be named, having been put down as the result of a mystery infection later that year.

$4million Fastnet Rock colt from  River Dove – Emaratee

Bought by Emirates Park in 2013, he finished second at his only two starts before suffering a heart attack as a four year-old.

$3.6 million – Zabeel colt from Diamond Lover – Don Eduardo

Bought by Gooree Stud at Karaka in 2000, Don Eduardo went on to win the AJC Australian Derby and sire stakes-winners at stud.

$3million – Redoute's Choice colt from Deja Slew – Nodoubt Deja

Bought by South African trainer Charles Laird in 2006, he was sent to South Africa and won one race.


Most Expensive Broodmare

$5million Milanova (Danehill x L'On Vite)

Bought in 2008 by Coolmore at the Inglis Broodmare Sale, Milanova was sent back to Ireland. A full sister to Holy Roman Emperor, she has left the Group III winner Pretty Perfect by Galileo.
