Proisir in Demand, Star Daughter Yonce Retired

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday January 31

Australian buyers are waking up to the merits of Rich Hill Stud’s super progressive sire Proisir, who has had seven stakes-winners in New Zealand this season four of them Group I winners.

Proisir, a sire on the rise.

The sale is still progress, but Proisir has already had seven yearlings sell for $200,000 or more in Karaka Book 1 and six of those have been bought by Australian based buyers.

Chris Waller/ Mulcaster Bloodstock have bought two colts from Bay Star and Pacific for $300,000 and $260,000, while Peter Moody bought a colt from Palos de Lago for $260,000.

Brad Widdup bought a filly from Piazza for $240,000, while Busuttin Racing bought a colt from Passion Cut for $180,000.

Ciaron Maher Racing have bought four by Proisir with the most expensive at $230,000 a filly from Sarsarun.

It’s not surprising to see Maher keen on Proisir, given he trained the stallion’s super talented daughter Yonce, who has unfortunately suffered a tendon injury and will be retired.

Yonce had just seven starts and won six of them before being tested in the Group I ATC Queen of the Turf Stakes last autumn when she finished a game fourth on a bottomless heavy track behind Nimalee.

Proisir has not had an Australian Group I winner yet, but if she had stayed sound am tipping Yonce would have done the job this year.
