Your Song's Daughter Jaja Chaboogie Surprises in Vamos Stakes

Mark Smith - Wednesday February 22

The favourites were nowhere to be seen as the six-year-old Your Song mare Jaja Chaboogie scored a shock win in Wednesday’s Group III Armidale Stud Vamos Stakes (1400m) at Launceston.

A third winner on the day for David Pires, the Julie Richards-trained mare defeated Sirene Stryker (Stryker) by a neck, with In Her Stride (Stratum Star) a half-head back in third.

With her first black-type success Jaja Chaboogie advances her record to seven five four from 30 starts with earnings of $227,585.

Jaja Chaboogie did her early races for Kris Lees, although she had been purchased as a yearling by the Richards family after being passed when offered by Brisbane Meadows at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

uo;We had her half-sister Manilenya (High Chaparral), who ran fourth in this race (twice),” part-owner Dean Richards said.

“When the track upgrades were going on at Elwick, we had no place to educate her, so we leased her to Australian Bloodstock.

“I think we only paid around $10,000 for her.”

Jaja Chaboogie is the best of three winners from six to race for the unraced Dehere (USA) mare Jaja.

Jaja Chaboogie failed to make her modest $15,000 reserve at 2018 Classic Yearling Sale

It is a family synonymous with Gooree Stud as Jaja’s granddam Sister Sass (Lyphard) is a sister to multiple Group 1 winner Manila ana half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Stately Don (Nureyev).

Jaja has only had one foal since Jaja Chaboogie, an unnamed 3yo colt by  Jimmy Creed (USA).

Jaja Chaboogie is the sixth stakes-winner for Your Song (Fastnet Rock), who covered 20 mares at Gooree Stud last spring.
