Three On the Bounce for Rubick Filly Reo

Mark Smith - Wednesday April 19

Not all pinhooks ‘hit it out of the park,’ but that does not stop them from running and winning. The Rubick filly Reo sold for $37,500 as a weanling before making $7,500 less as a yearling.

Ridden by Thomas Stockdale for Richard Laming, Reo made it three wins on the bounce when overpowering her rivals in a benchmark 64 for 3yo fillies over 1500m at Sandown-Hillside on Wednesday.

Back past worse than midfield, Stockdale had to wait until Daniel Moor on Starianne cleared him before easing out to the centre of the track. Reo overpowered the Sebring filly Starianneby a short-head, with the Choisir filly Great Taste a further one and a half lengths back in third.

After a debut sixth at Cranbourne last December, Reo has reeled off wins at Mornington, Sale, and Sandown.

Consigned by Middlebrook Valley Lodge to the 2020 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale, Reo was a $37,500 purchase for Makybe Racing and Breeding. Offered by Two Bays Farm to the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Laming Racing had the final say for the Rubick filly at $30,000.

Reo is the first foal of the unraced Scat Daddy (USA) mare Elliptical Orbit (USA), a daughter of the Listed winner and Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas third Starbourne.

By the great Sadler’s Wells, Starbourne is a sister to stakes-placed Starrystarrynight (IRE), the dam of Group 1 ATC Australian Oaks winner Gust Of Wind.

Elliptical Orbit (USA) has a 2yo Merchant Navy filly named Ellibaby, who was a $180,000 purchase for Ontrack Syndicates/David Vandyke from the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft at the 2022 Magic Millions.

Matthew Dunn/Neil Jenkinson Pty Ltd (FBAA) bought a Written By filly from Elliptical Orbit (USA) consigned by Middlebrook Valley Lodge to the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

After foaling a Written By colt last spring, Elliptical Orbit (USA) revisited the Widden Stud stallion.
