Blue-blood I Am Invincible Colt Wins G3 Hawkesbury Guineas

Tara Madgwick - Saturday April 22

Gorgeous looking I Am Invincible colt Hawaii Five Oh has shown glimmers of serious ability in his brief career to date and joined all the dots in the $200,000 Group III Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) to post a resounding victory.

Previously trained by Michael Freedman, Hawaii Five Oh was transferred to Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott after finishing second to subsequent Australian Derby winner Major Beel at Newcastle in a Class 1 race in February.

He was a close second at Randwick when having his first run for Waterhouse and Bott last month and took a quantum leap into this race.

Ridden quietly by Nash Rawiller, Hawaii Five Oh surged to the front with a furlong to run and was explosive to the line winning by three lengths eased down.

uo;He’s been promising to do this for quite some time and has shown us so much potential,” said Nash Rawiller.

“Full credit to Gai, as much as Adrian is running the show at home, she’s taken this horse under her wing and in six weeks has turned him into the horse we knew he was and that was pretty awesome today.”

Hawaii Five Oh has the overall record of two wins and three placings from six starts with prizemoney topping $160,000.

“I was really impressed with the manner in which he put them away and the acceleration he showed,” said Adrian Bott.

“Off the back of today we’ll look towards Queensland for him and I think the tracks and tempo of the races will suit him. We just wanted to see how he stacks up against this grade and take it one step at a time, but he’ll take a lot of confidence out today.”

A homebred for Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud, Hawaii Five Oh runs for Harvey in partnership with John Singleton and Ray Hadley.

The colt is a full brother to ill-fated multiple Group II winning sprinter Libertini and is the second stakes-winner among five winners from Group I ATC Coolmore Classic winner Aloha.

Aloha had a filly by Ole Kirk last spring ad was then covered again by I Am Invincible.

Hawaii Five Oh is the 93rd stakes-winner for Yarraman Park’s champion sire I Am Invincible, whose fee this season has been set at $302,500.
