Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 1

All eyes were on Everest victor Giga Kick winning his hit out at the Randwick trials on Monday morning as did Australian Oaks runner-up So Dazzling, but there were also seven heats for juveniles with some interesting unraced winners.

In the very next heat after Giga Kick, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Written Tycoon filly Tycoon Deshauna made it two trial starts for two wins when beating the colts, who included Group III Breeders Plate winner Empire of Japan.

Tycoon Deshauna is built for speed!

A pinhook winner for Ridgmont Farm, Tycoon Deshauna was a $320,000 Inglis Easter purchase and her ownership group includes Frank Cook’s Mystery Downs, who has had past success with another filly from this family.  Tycoon Deshauna is from Supersay, a winning half-sister to Cook’s VRC Oaks winner Lasqueti Spirit.

John O’Shea produced a smart Deep Field filly in Galaxy Field to win her heat at her first outing ahead of another first timer in the Ron Quinto trained Al Flores, an Exceed and Excel filly, who is the first foal of his former Group I winning mare Dixie Blossoms.

Galaxy Field is a grand-daughter of former John O'Shea trained champion mare Private Steer.

Galaxy Field was a $320,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Astute Bloodstock and is the second foal of Satellites, an unraced Pierro daughter of John O’Shea’s champion mare Private Steer. He has trained plenty of Group I winners since Private Steer, but it’s doubtful if any have been better.

Peter and Paul Snowden produced a stylish Zoustar colt in Bravely to win his heat for the Newgate, China Horse Club and partners group. First trial this prep after two modest efforts in December and January, he was eased back from a wide gate and surged down the running out wide to win under a hold.

Bravely is the first foal of G3 winner She's So High.

A $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Widden Stud draft, Bravely is the first  foal of Group III winning I Am Invincible mare She’s So High, whose second foal (Zoustar filly) was bought by Yulong at Inglis Easter this year for $575,000.

Producing the quickest last 600m of all the 2YO heats was the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Snitzel colt Royal Tribute, who showed brilliant speed from the gates to lead and kicked on to win by more than a length.

Royal Tribute is bred on a nick that runs at 28% SW to runner!

Bred and sold by Kia Ora, Royal Tribute made $500,000 at Magic Millions when bought by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds and runs for a syndicate headed by Go Bloodstock in whose colours he runs. Royal Tribute is the first foal of Canadian Group III winner Jennifer Lynnette (Can).

He is bred on super successful nick being by Snitzel from a daughter of Elusive Quality, the nick producing 15 winners from 18 runners. Five of the winners are SW’s headed by Champion 2YO Filly Away Game, so the nick runs at 28% SW to runner!

Additional 2YO heat winners were: Not So Common (NZ) (Tivaci), No More Lies (Exceed and Excel) and In My Dreams (Pariah), who is the third unraced trial winner for Pariah in the past week.
