Oriental Tycoon a Maiden No More

Mark Smith - Wednesday May 31

After placing in five of his starts, Booker's brother Oriental Tycoon broke the ice in a 3yo maiden over 1400m at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Ridden by Nash Rawiller for Chris Waller, the bold-striding son of Written Tycoon defeated the Kermadec filly Treize by one and three-quarter lengths, with the Sebring filly Queen Astrid a half neck back in third.

Oriental Tycoon was coming off a third at Newcastle in his first start for the Waller stable after transferring from Peter and Paul Snowden.

"He was brilliant, and Nash rated him nicely," stable representative Charlie Duckworth said.

"I was worried he might have been going a bit too slow early, but he gave a good kick and was strong over the last 100m.

"He didn't have to do too much work to get there and cruise along.

"It's great to reward the owners who are new to the stable."

Oriental Tycoon a $620,000 Inglis Easter Yearling

A brother to Group 1 MRC Oakleigh Plate winner Booker and Listed winner Banquo, Oriental Tycoon is the third winner from five to race for Noondie, a three-quarter sister by Flying Spur to stakes-winner Tranquility from stakes-winner Creatrix.

Noondie could not find a buyer willing to shell out for her $20,000 reserve at the 2013 Inglis August Thoroughbred Sale, but that is a world away now.

A $600,000 buy for Mitchell Bloodstock (FBAA) from the Sledmere Stud draft, on behalf of Mill Park, at the 2019 Inglis Chairman's Sale when carrying Oriental Tycoon, Noondie had an I Am Invincible filly make $1,000,000 to the bid of Australian Bloodstock at the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Noondie has a weanling filly by I Am Invincible and was covered by Yarraman Park Stud's Champion last spring.

Oriental Tycoon's sister Booker, a $1,600,000 buy for Tom Magnier at the 2020 Inglis Chairman's Sale, had an I Am Invincible filly sell to Ciaron Maher Bloodstock for $2,500,000 when offered by Coolmore Stud to the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
