Frankelmania – look for these at the majors in 2024

Mark Smith - Friday June 30

Fresh off a Group 1 Royal Ascot treble, Frankel (GB) is hot property worldwide. Australia cannot get enough of the undefeated champion, who has a record thirty-one Australian-born foals in 2022.

That's good news for the sales companies, whose appetites were wetted when two Frankel (GB) colts topped the recent Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.

The sale-topper was Cornerstone Stud's colt from the unraced Muhaarar (GB) mare Upside (IRE), a $925,000 purchase for Yulong Investments.

Upside was a 170,000 gns Tattersalls October yearling. She is a half-sister to the South African Group 1 winner Europa Point (Rock Of Gibraltar) and the Group II Richmond Stakes winner Harbour Watch (Acclamation), the sire of the admirable Pyledriver.

Yulong also had the final say at $725,000 for Coolmore Stud's colt out of the Zoffany (IRE) mare Walk This Way (IRE).

A half-sister to Listed winner and Group 1 Epsom Oaks third Alluringly, Walk This Way (IRE) did not distinguish herself on the track finishing seventh in a 19-runner maiden at Nass at her only start. Still, she is a descendant of the great racemare and breed-shaping broodmare, Urban Sea.

Yulong indicated the two colts would likely carry the green and white silks, and the Victorian showpiece also houses quite a few of the rising yearlings.

Still, there will be no shortage of Frankel's heading to the yearling sales in 2024. Let's have a sneak peek.

Filly x Alsephina (IRE) (Sea The Stars x Pabouche by Dubawi)

Purchased by First Light Racing / Paul Willetts Bloodstock for a modest 22,000gns at Tattersalls, Alsephina (IRE) started twice, finishing second on debut at Kempton and fourth at Newcastle.
