Blue Pointers for the Future

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 11

The extraordinary performance of Darley shuttler Blue Point (IRE) to have sired 25 winners from 66 runners so far in the Northern Hemisphere this year has led Australian owners to get the ball rolling here with 30 of his new season two year-olds already named, so lets take a look at who’s who.

Blue Point (IRE) is back in Victoria for Darley at a fee of $44,000.

A powerhouse sprinter by Shamardal, Blue Point was a very good two year-old that trained on and on to achieve Group I success at four and five with his overall record standing at 11 wins and six placings from 20 starts.

His 25 winners so far in Europe are highlighted by three stakes-winners – Big Evs, Rasalion and Action Point – with his latest winner coming overnight at Salisbury in the UK when the Shadwell homebred filly Raqiya won by three lengths at her second start over 6f as a red hot favourite.

She powered clear of another Blue Point filly Miss Information, whose turn in the winner’s circle cannot be far away.

Given what Blue Point has done so far it’s hard not to envisage he might enjoy similar success here given the enthusiasm for his stock at the yearling sales.

$900,000 Blue Point (IRE) colt from Bumbasina (IRE).

He had 54 yearlings average over $195,000 across all sales and they sold for up to $900,000 with his top seller the half-brother to Group I winner Amelia’s Jewel that was bought by Rosemont Alliance/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/Annabel Neasham Racing Pty Ltd.

That colt has been named Bosustow and he continues the theme of the Victorian Stallion Alliance in naming their expensive colts after AFL stars with stakes success enjoyed by Zoustar colts Brereton and Millane.
