There were 14 trials this morning at Randwick and we got to see a serious Everest contender in Think About It, an unraced $1.25million Zoustar 3YO and there were two heats for new season juveniles with winners by Written Tycoon and Extreme Choice.
Joe Pride has two Everest contenders and while Private Eye is race fit and ready to go after winning the Group II ATC The Shorts last weekend, Think About It is still tuning up for his return having last raced when winning the Group I BRC Stradbroke Handicap back in June.
This was his second trial back and he was kept wide all the way by Sam Clipperton in this 740m scamper and hit the line hard for second behind Welcome Gypsy before steaming on past the post in the manner of a horse busting to get back to the races. They clocked 43.24 with the last 600m in 33.08 seconds.
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott unleashed seven juvenile winners at the official trials on Monday and left this guy at home, but Sovereign Hill made a big impression winning his heat in a time comparable to that of Welcome Gypsy and Think About It.
A strong well educated son of Written Tycoon, he knew his job and gave Adam Hyperonimus an easy task, working forward to sit outside the leader and surging to the line to win by nearly three lengths in 43.59 seconds with the last 600 in 33.18 seconds.
A $280,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Silverdale Farm draft for Yu Long Investments / Waterhouse & Bott / Kestrel Thoroughbreds, Sovereign Hill runs for Yulong and partners and is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to Written Tycoon’s Group I winning $1.2million earning sprinter Music Magnate. He was bred by Iskander Racing from minor winning mare Taraji, who is married to Written Tycoon and produced another colt last spring by him and is back in foal again.
The other juvenile heat for fillies was won by the Anthony Cummings trained Extreme Choice filly Extreme Diva, who scored by half a length in a field of four clocking 44.11 seconds. She had the advantage of barrier one and led for Tommy Berry before working nicely to the line with the remaining three fillies, two by Snitzel and one by Tassort all going nicely.
Extreme Diva was a $400,000 Magic Millions purchase for DGR Thoroughbreds from the Silverdale Farm draft and is a half-sister to two winners from On a Given Day, a winning Fastnet Rock mare from the family of Group I winners Snitzel and Private Eye. There’s not a lot of this filly at present, so autumn might be more her time and her trainer Anthony Cummings knows a bit about the breed having trained She’s Extreme to win the G1 Champagne Stakes and VRC Oaks.
Rosemont Stud and their Victorian partners have bought some expensive colts in recent years and one of them is the unraced John O’Shea trained three year-old Zoustar colt Schwarz. He was having his second trial this prep with Nash Rawiller on board and made good ground along the fence after being allowed to find his feet. His best work was on the line and he scored by three-quarters of length held together.
A $1.25million Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Rosemont-Victorian Alliance/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/David Redvers Bloodstock, Schwarz is the first foal for Group II winner Summer Sham, who traces back to blue hen Shantha’s Choice,t eh dam of Group I winners Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain and Platinum Scissors.
