You’re a Wizard Harry!

Joe Carbone - Thursday October 5

It’s easy to find inspiration when it comes to Harry Angel (IRE), a freak on the track with a timeform rating of 132 and off to a flyer in the sheds, this genuine superstar of the game is something of a wizard.

Harry Angel (GB) has sired nine SW's worldwide.

A winner of the Group II Mill Reef Stakes at two followed by multiple G1 victories at three  including a course record, ensured the crown of world champion sprinter. No mean feat by any stretch.

A strong, compact, well natured and exceptionally balanced son of the champion sire Dark Angel out of the good producing mare in Beatrix Potter, Harry Angel has been kicking some serious goals with his progeny in both hemispheres and they seem to be clicking exceptionally well with mares that possess either Danehill or Mr Prospector close up.

An extraordinary trait the progeny of the ‘wizard’ possess is a tenacity to find under pressure and a certain will to win that I have not seen en masse from the progeny of a stallion in some time.

Expertly handled by powerhouse global giant Godolphin, Harry Angel served his biggest book of 174 mares in 2022 at a fee of $16,500 and is fully booked this season(130 cap) at $33,000. It’s safe to say he’s well and truly on the up.

With a host of winners and many more knocking on the door, things are bubbling away and set to explode over the coming months and years ahead. Stay tuned.

The second season sires race is the hottest most interesting and exciting one in years and that particular elite crop of sires has the potential to shape our game well into the future. So, with many well credentialed individuals who’s it going to be? It’s Harry Angel for me.

Footnote: Harry Angel will have a runner in the Group II VRC Danehill Stakes on Saturday in quality stakes-winning filly Stretan Angel.
