Another Group 1 for Nations Pride - Pedigree Update for Militarize and Lucky Vega

Mark Smith - Monday October 9

Dean Hawthorne has purchased many nice horses for Jonathon Munz, and the Dubawi mare Amerindia (GB) may be among the best.

Purchased off Godolphin for 150,000gns at the 2017 Tattersalls December Breeding Stock Sale, Amerindia (GB) struck gold with her second foal, the triple Group 1 winner Militarize. Still, he is just one highlight in a pedigree that bears little resemblance to that in 2017.

Retired a maiden after placings as a short-priced favourite at Chantilly and Saint-Cloud, Amerindia is a half-sister to the Listed winner Important Time (Oasis Dream), who has since produced Godolphin's global superstar Nations Pride.

The 4-year-old son of Teofilo (IRE) added Sunday's Grade 1 Canadian International at Woodbine to elite-level scores in the USA (Saratoga Derby Invitational) and Germany Grosser Dallmayr-Preis – Bayerisches Zuchtrennen), and was placed in the Dubai World Cup Turf.

A stakes-winner in five countries, Nations Pride won the Group III winner at Meydan and gave Saturday's Group II Hill Stakes runner-up Hoo Ya Mal (GB) a 7-length drubbing in the Listed Newmarket Stakes in April last year.

With an admirable record of consistency, Nations Pride advanced his record to nine wins, to seconds and one-third from 14 starts with his two-and-a-quarter length defeat of Royal Champion (IRE) (Shamardal) in the Canadian International.

Winning trainer Charlie Appleby said the son of Teofilo would not make the trip to the Breeders' Cup but said Hong Kong is an option.

"This is a race we're pleased to support, and thanks to everyone here at Woodbine for looking after us so well," Appleby told Blood-Horse.

"We thought for the horse, the conditions were there to suit him—until the rain came. We seem to have been following the rain a little bit for the last couple of weeks. But with the really long stretch, he was able to do it.

"He won't go to the Breeders' Cup. I don't think he'll stretch out to a mile and a half. We might take him to Bahrain for the Bahrain International and then contemplate Hong Kong."

The pedigree received a further boost when Amerindia's half-sister Queen of Carthage (Cape Cross) produced Yulong's Group 1 Phoenix Stakes hero Lucky Vega (Lope De Vega), who was second in the Group 1 St. James's Palace Stakes and Group 1 Middle Park Stakes.

Queen of Carthage, Amerindia and Important Time are out of the top-class Satwa Queen (FR).

A Group 1 winner in France, the daughter of Muhtathir topped the 2007 Tattersalls December Mare Sale when Godolphin had the final say at 3,400,000gns.

China Horse Club/Newgate Bloodstock/Trilogy Racing plucked Militarize out of the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft at the Magic Millions for $550,000

The son of Dundeel has bagged the ATC Sires' Produce Stakes, Champagne Stakes, and Run To The Rose in his seven starts to date. So, it was no great surprise when Newgate and partners recently welcomed Arrowfield Stud into the ownership.

Recent results will buoy Lindsay Park Racing and Lizzie Jelfs. Their $160,000 purchase at the Magic Millions of Militarize's three-quarter brother by Super Seth was named Perfectly Good and in training at Lindsay Park.

So, Amerindia (GB) has earned her place among the most valuable mares in the land. She has a yearling colt by Snitzel and revisited Dundeel last spring.
