The Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas is a race associated with truly great colts that become great stallions and a vintage renewal of the race in 2021 was fought out by three outstanding colts and one of them has some stunning first foals on the ground this spring.

Darley superstar Anamoe took the prize that day by half a length over Captivant with Artorius in third place and Hitotsu just on their heels – vintage!

A fast pre-Christmas winning two year-old that blossomed in the autumn to win the Group I ATC Champagne Stakes (1600m), Captivant is the best son of Golden Slipper winning sire Capitalist, who is in turn the fastest and most precocious son of champion sire Written Tycoon.

While Anamoe, Artorius and Hitotsu are all standing their first seasons in the Hunter Valley this spring, Captivant won the race to go to stud first and covered a quality book of 127 mares at Kia Ora Stud last year and breeders are delighted with what they are seeing in his first foals.

Captivant x Distinction Colt

"We couldn't be happier with our colt. Captivant has added a bit of class to a scopey Pierro mare and the resulting foal is strong, athletic and going to grow into a very nice yearling." - Adrian Stanley, Woburn Farm

Captivant x Summer Fun Filly (half-sister to G1 placed Kimochi)

“This filly is a real powerhouse. She’s strong with plenty of bone, a great shoulder and a lot of quality - very typical of what we’re seeing in Captivant’s first foals.” – Shane Wright, Kia Ora

Captivant x Shivani Colt

“This colt is incredibly athletic and all quality. He has a lot of leg, good bone and is a fantastic shape - much like Captivant.” – Belle Howard, Kia Ora
